Figures released by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority on 15th November 2018 show that Charlie Elphicke, MP for Dover & Deal, spent a total of £204,975 of taxpayer’s money last year (2017/18) – putting him in the top 10% most expensive UK MPs.
That figure includes £146,748 on staff costs and over £22,000 on a London home.
Charlotte Cornell, Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for Dover & Deal, says, “Charlie Elphicke’s spend does not represent good value for the people of Dover & Deal.
“In Dover District, unemployment is above the national average, homelessness is rising, recorded crime has been going up. Too many vulnerable people are suffering the effects of public service cuts and Universal Credit is causing misery.
“Charlie Elphicke has done such a poor job of representing his constituency’s interests at Westminster that it took recently-departed Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab no less than four months in post to realise how important the Dover-Calais route is for UK trade.
“I am committed, as Labour’s Parliamentary candidate, to work efficiently and effectively as part of a Labour Government for the people of Dover, Deal and the villages. It’s time they got value for money from their MP”.
